A
Rotarian in Warren, Oh was in a hurry to his next appointment and
not paying any attention to his speed. When he saw the flashing
lights in his rear-view mirror, he quickly noticed that he was about
14 MPH over the speed limit. The officer was not local police
(Chief's are usually members of Rotary), he was not a sheriff's
deputy but a most feared, no nonsense Trooper of the Ohio State
Highway Patrol. Upon pulling over, the trooper ask to see his
license, registration, and insurance card. And at the same time
asking him "What's Your Hurry?" The trooper then proceeded to the
rear of the vehicle and noticed his Rotary License Plate. Returning
to the worried Rotarian he said "You know you were traveling way too
fast. I'm only going to give you a warning because my father was a
Rotarian for most of his life and he loved that organization. I'm
giving you a break because you obviously feel as passionately about
Rotary as my father did, so slow down and have a nice day." |
While
traveling with my family to the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY
one week-end, my vehicle was parked in a designated parking spot.
An attractive young woman with her small child approached me and
ask, "Is that your car?" I said, "Yes." She continued, "From the
looks of your license plate you must be a Rotarian." "Why do you
ask?" I said hesitantly. "Well", she said, "Right after graduating
from high school, I was selected to be a Rotary Exchange Student.
And that experience significantly changed my life for the better. I
just saw your Rotary plate and wanted to say 'thank you' as a
Rotarian and your organization for providing me such a life
changing opportunity. I hope my daughter will be fortunate enough
to have the same opportunity some day." I departed our brief
meeting with a renewed sense of pride in Rotary, and the Youth
Exchange Program for "doing good in the world." I thought I was the
only one who noticed Rotary Plates. Dave Ewing, Canton, OH |
As
a District Governor I had just finished a club a visitation of one
of our evening dinner clubs and I was in a hurry to get home. So
much so that when I saw the flashing red lights, I new that I hadn’t
been paying attention and was going to get a ticket. The officer
approached and looked with his flashlight shinning thru the rear
side window at my coat laying on the back seat of my car. “I can see
from your name badge and your Rotary license plate that you must be
the District Governor of Rotary,” he continued. You know I was going
to ticket you but your Rotary Club gave our K9 Unit protective vests
and we really appreciated that gift. I was thankful that the club I
had just visited made that gift and that my Rotary Plate linked me
to that club. Bob, Nordonia Hills, OH |
After
years of going to NASCAR races I tried everything; from buying a
pass (not available), sneaking in past the guard, to bribing the
gate guard (to no avail), just to get into the garage area where the
drivers walk around their cars before the race. Five years ago at
Richmond International Raceway in Virginia, I parked my Motor home
as close to the garage area as I could. A fellow was walking by and
noticed my Rotary License Plate. He stopped to talk and one thing
lead to another and I found out that he was a NASCAR official and
ever since, I now have two complementary passes two times a year to
the garage area at Richmond. Cost of my Rotary Motor Home License
Plate $25. . . . . . .cost of my scrapbook of drivers autographs and
photos of me and my wife with them . . . . . . . . . PRICELESS!

I
am proud to be a Rotarian with the classification architect. When I
purchased my Rotary license plate, I selected “ARCTCT” for the
plate. Many came up to me saying “Are you an architect?” I would
agree and they would reply to their partner “See Honey? I knew
that’s what it meant.” Maybe my plate was a little confusing to some
because at the car wash, the attendant said “So how much
Snowmobiling do you do? I said I was an architect and he replied,
“O, I thought you liked Arctic Cats.” Jack, Massillon, OH |
At
some point in everyone's life, you’ve got to get yourself a “TOY.”
After some discussion my wife & I decided on a snazzy dark blue
metallic Audi S-4 convertible. We wanted a special plate and picked
a Rotary Plate with the number “0719.” When people remark about our
Rotary plate, we proudly tell them, “That is the month and day of
our “first date.” They usually smile and reply, “That’s great! Neat
car; great plate!” Luke, Columbus, OH |
